From Shirt to Knickers. Learn to Stitch, Snip & Sew Your Own Truly Knickers in Frome
Bring along a loved-but-no-longer-worn shirt and learn how to transform it into a beautiful pair of cotton knickers — with help and guidance from Truly herself.
In this friendly and creative workshop, you’ll be shown step-by-step how to rework your fabric into your very own pair of Truly Knickers, using original Truly Sopel patterns in your chosen size. A playful way to repurpose and upcycle — no sewing experience needed, just a shirt and a sense of fun!
Workshops take place in Truly’s boudoir-style boutique and studio in the heart of Frome. All equipment, trims, and patterns are provided. Workshop timings vary depending on ability — please allow up to 4 hours. Dates are flexible — sessions are arranged at a time that suits you.
What type of shirt should I bring? Bring along a cotton men’s work shirt — patterned or plain, it’s up to you! Your finished knickers will take on the unique character of the shirt — from the buttons and labels to any pockets or patterns. Each pair tells a story. Don’t have a shirt? You are welcome to choose one from our stash.

If you don’t fancy our workshop but like the concept, then our pre-made Cotton Shirt Knickers are also available to browse and buy at Truly’s shop in Frome, where you can choose from a vibrant array of colours, styles, and sizes. Each pair is uniquely handcrafted from repurposed 100% cotton shirts—making every one truly individual.
Where do the shirts come from?
Truly works closely with local charity shops across Somerset, who regularly contact the studio with their latest shirt arrivals. Shirts range from high street classics like Marks & Spencer and Jeff Banks to luxury labels such as Charles Tyrwhitt and Sartoria Rossi.
With formalwear donations rising and demand dropping, this collaboration gives these beautifully made shirts a fresh and imaginative future. What was once a masculine, corporate garment becomes something playful, sustainable, and delightfully unexpected—a joyful pair of Truly Knickers!
